In only its second year of competition, the Paul International Public Charter School TSA chapter has claimed the top spot at the DC TSA State Leadership Conference, earning seven podium finishes — including gold medals in three separate events. The results mark a historic milestone for a program still building its foundation.
The conference, held at the University of the District of Columbia, brought together student competitors from every TSA chapter in the Washington, D.C. area. Paul International entered competitors in a wide range of events and came away with a record that few second-year chapters achieve anywhere in the country.
Gold Medals: Coding, Video Game Design, and Podcasting
Paul International's competitors took first place in Coding, demonstrating the strongest combined score in that category among all competing chapters. The Video Game Design team earned a gold medal for a project that judges praised for its originality and technical execution. In Podcasting, the chapter's entry delivered a finished product that stood out in both production quality and editorial clarity — a direct reflection of what PI Tech Network trains students to do every day.
Seven Total Podium Finishes
Beyond the three golds, the chapter placed in the top three in four additional events — a depth of performance that reflects the breadth of talent in the program, not just standout performances in one area. Students who placed will advance to the TSA National Conference in Washington, D.C. this June, where they will compete against top chapters from across the country.
"Seven podium finishes in year two. This is not luck — this is the result of months of preparation and a team that takes competition seriously."
State Officer Leadership
The conference also featured elections for DC TSA state officer positions. Marisela Chirino Hernandez, who served as DC TSA State Secretary in 2025–2026, was elected DC TSA President Elect for 2026–2027 — the highest student officer position available at the state level, and a historic achievement for Paul International. Khaleed Balogun made history as DC TSA's first-ever State Reporter, a new officer position recognizing student journalism and communication excellence.
Looking Ahead to Nationals
With qualifying competitors now set, the chapter is directing its preparation toward the TSA National Conference, scheduled for June 22–27, 2026 in Washington, D.C.
